We always make every effort to save your natural teeth, but there are times when a tooth extraction is a necessary treatment.
If you require an extraction, you can count on the trusted, gentle team at Smile Perfect Dental & Implant of Boynton Beach.
Whether you need a tooth removed due to damage, decay, injury, or in order to prepare for orthodontic treatment, our team can offer the quality care you need. We also provide wisdom tooth extractions.
When you are having a tooth extracted, we will make sure the area is numb to keep you comfortable. Most patients just feel pressure during the procedure. The actual extraction is usually very fast. If your tooth is impacted, it may take a little bit longer as we work to access it. Once your extraction is complete, we will provide detailed post-operative care instructions. We may also prescribe an antibiotic or pain reliever if necessary.
Your wisdom teeth are the last four molars on your top and bottom arches. They usually erupt between the ages of 17 and 21. Because they are the last set of molars, there often is no room for them in the mouth; therefore, they may erupt at an odd angle or become impacted. In these cases, the teeth must be extracted. If left in the mouth, they may push your teeth forward, causing future dental issues. Wisdom teeth can also cause pain, swelling and infections. X-rays will show us the position of your wisdom teeth and help us determine if they will need to be removed.
Some discomfort and swelling are expected following a tooth extraction. This may last for a few days. Once you are home, you can use ice for the first day for 20 minutes at a time. After that, you may use warm compresses for comfort. Be sure to follow our post-operative instructions. If you are feeling discomfort after the expected healing time, be sure to give us a call.
